Brooklyn Brewery – Black Chocolate Stout

Brooklyn Brewery - Black Chocolate Stout

Brooklyn Brewery - Black Chocolate Stout

THE POUR: Very, very dark body. Head is about 1-2inches and a brownish color – you can tell there is cocoa here.  Nice lacing after head dissipates. Looks beautiful in the glass, and pours very smooth.

THE AROMA: Sweet malty smell with roasted espresso tones. Alcohol is very noticeable at 10% abv.

THE TASTE: Very smooth beginning, with a bitter chocolate taste filling the mouth.  The initial taste is very malty and almost thick, with immediate alcohol taste. Finishes with bitter but smooth. Cocoa lasts on the palate.

THE DECISION: I found this beer to be a great sipping stout.  The alcohol is a little overpowering, yet I think it is necessary to gain the full experience from beginning to end that this stout delivers.  If you are a fan of stouts and espresso, you will find this to be a very pleasing winter beer.

The Brooklyn Brewery is one of America’s most successful microbreweries, and is listed among the top 40 breweries in the country.  How did this happen? Well, for starters, they have the Brooklyn Lager.  Brooklyn, being known to stick to its roots and celebrate it’s history, embraced the beer, and so did the entire city of New York.  Brooklyn Lager can be found on tap throughout the city, and it is a favorite among locals and tourists alike.

Brooklyn Brewery’s flagship Lager is just one of many in a well-known lineup of craft beer.  They also brew a Brown Ale, Pale Ale, Pennant Ale, Pilsner, and the Brooklyner Weisse.  Brooklyn Brewery is also well known for their seasonal offerings, such as the Oktoberfest, and the Post Road Pumpkin Ale.

Sixpoint Craft Ales was founded in 2004 by Shane Welch and Andrew Bronstein. Previously to opening the brewery, Shane and Andrew conducted thousands of home brew experiments after touring Europe’s hops farms and malteries. Sixpoint Craft Ales uses only barley, hops, water and yeast, and produces a unique range of flavors that runs from the lighter amber Sweet Action to the darker, porter-like Brownstone Ale. Sixpoint also produces numerous specialty ales, on tap at select bars throughout the city.
